How did you get into music?
I was born into it – been singing since I was three.
Do you play any instruments?
Bass- when I write. when I was a kid I played piano.
What is your 'day' job?
Salon Coordinator
Have you always lived in Louisville? If not where else and what led you there.
How did you end up back in Louisville?
Louisville, Chicago, Charlotte, New York, South Beach, Louisville - Always music
driven reasons.
Also in the previous band interview I asked about the groupie scene for WpB. Now
that the EP has been released and the band is better known has the groupie scene
changed. Do you have any 'psycho' or borderline groupies?
Yeah - there are psychotic groupies everywhere we go, but mostly they've just
become our friends.
What is it like being the only female in the band?
I learned a long time ago how rock n’ roll guys behave –if you can’t beat em’
join em’!
How is it traveling with four guys? ( Hope they aren't all PMS'ing at the same
time)
I fit in pretty well with the boys – they don’t mind when I pull out my make-up
and get ready for the gig.
It seems that lead vocalists are always focused on the most. Even more so when
they are female, such as with No Doubt and Gwen Stefani. How do you feel about
the focus and attention placed on female leads?
Any front person of a band usually gets a lot of the focus and attention whether
they’re female or not.
Many must have been surprised when they saw the cover of Glitter Lust for they
must have assumed it would be a band shot with you front and center.
Actually people just assume that the picture on the front cover is me. Not bad
for a mannequin is she?
Do you find it difficult to balance work, the band, and still have your own
personal time?
No – I fill my life with what I want and what I need, so it’s all my personal
time.
Recently you were featured in Velocity Review about your hair. Have you ever
been a blonde? Do you have any hair or beauty tips for the gals?
I’ve been the full spectrum of colors – just not all at the same time!
In the first band interview I asked about musical influences. You named Chrissie
Hynde, PJ Harvey, and Chris Cornell. Do you like Chris Cornell with short hair
or long hair better? (I know it is such a teeny bopper question, but I couldn't
resist. I
love that man.)
I like Chris with long hair, short hair, anytime, anywhere- hey!
You also said "I'm influenced by a lot of what I hear good or bad. You can't
help but to filter the sound around and through you." I personally found that to
be very philosophical, poetic, and plain old downright true! That statement is
very deep and comes from the soul. In that same sense do you have any words of
wisdom for the young girls and young women out there who are bombarded by images
of what
it is to be beautiful and sexy?
Yeah –short n’ sweet – Do what you want!
Do you have any female role models or influences non-musical?
Mothers amaze me.
What image would you like to project?
I‘d like to think that I project a strong, confident individual.
Are all of the songs on Glitter Lust a collaborative effort. Specifically the
lyrics?
Yes they are.
What is your favorite song on the EP? Why?
On the EP –Ruthless. On the road – How long. There’s nothing like pouring your
heart out in front of an audience.
What is a typical day like in the studio? If it can be called typical.
Sun down to sun up – it doesn’t matter how long it takes because we’re creating
music to be its greatest potential. So it’s pretty intense.
How about a typical day of a show?
Get to the gig, set up, relax, rock out, hang out, chill out, break down, party
down, chill.
A typical day in the life of Rachel Hagan?
There are no typical days for Rachel if I have anything to do with it!
How did you come by the nickname 'Axl'?
I think a little of my "rock star" attitude with my tardiness had something to
do with it – Garbage gave me the name.
Sean O'Haire on a scale from 1 to 10. 10 being freakin' hottie!
(Sorry, I had to throw it in. LOL)
Sean O’Who? Just jokin’!
From the last interview your last book and movie were "Ishmael" and "The Man on
the Train." How about now? Or any books movies you would like to share?
Books- The Darwin Awards, Stiff, and The Divinci Code. Movies- Swimming Pool,
Big Fish, and Lost In Translation
Are there any particular places you would really like to go on the Waterproof
tour?
Anywhere and everywhere!
